Renewable Energy for the home
With fuel and energy prices rising incessantly, now is the time to look seriously at producing your own electricity and heat. But how do you decide if this is a good idea? How do you know which technology to fit? And most importantly how do you know who to install your system?
Greenwatt Technology is your local independent renewable energy team. We understand the confusion that can result from so many technologies, products and installers and of course the various government incentives. Our aim is to offer independent expert technical advice, investment options and project planning to ensure our clients make the right decisions based on detailed information and careful assessment rather than through the pressure of sales and advertising campaigns.
Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels
Many people will have heard about the Government incentive (called Feed in Tariffs – FITS) for solar photovoltaic panels introduced in 2010. This is a scheme that encourages households and businesses to fit PV panels which produce electricity from solar radiation. Anyone installing before April 1st 2012 will have a fixed annual tariff guaranteed for 25 years and linked to the Retail Price Index (RPI). But annual tariffs for new installations are due to fall after April 1st 2012 – so it is a really good time to act now!
- The present Feed in Tariff (FIT) offers 41.3 p/kWh for every kWh of electricity produced by your domestic PV installations up to 4kWp (approx 18 panels in size).
- In addition for every kWh of electricity you export back to the grid and do not use in your home the Government will pay you an additional 3.1p/kWh
- Your bills are reduced as any energy you use from your own PV panels is free!
But if you plan an investment of maybe £6k-£10k, you need to be certain that the information you receive, the returns you might expect and the quality and guarantees on your technical system are the best you can get. And that’s where Greenwatt Technology can help. We carry out site visits, develop the technical and financial plans, prepare a comprehensive report with recommendations, and work with you to select the right installation partners for your project.
Other technologies
Whilst solar PV is the most common technology for renewable electricity, you can also install other systems such as small scale hydro-power and wind turbines. In future, new incentives for renewable heat and hot water are also being introduced during 2011-12 under the Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme (RHI). This new tariff will encourage renewable heat energy systems such as solar thermal, biomass, air and ground heat source pumps.
