Renewable Energy of Interest to Farmers

Farmers interest was raised when opportunities to include renewable energy systems within the farm enterprises was discussed at Minerva Mill Business Centre in Alcester. All the renewable technologies options to generate heat or electricity were included -  wind, solar thermal, solar photovoltaic, thermal pumps, biomass, anaerobic digestion and hydro.

The UK Coalition Government has recently confirmed its support for renewable electricity production through Feed-In Tariffs (FITs) incentives - and has announced a similar support programme for renewable heat – the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) to be introduced in June 2011. These two programmes, have opened up significant opportunities for farmers and landowners to invest in renewable energy technologies - saving costs and creating an income with very good prospects for a sound return on investment.

The farmers will now look at a feasibility study and business plans to assist in the decision-making to ensure the renewable options make a good fit with current farm enterprises, maximise renewable energy usage, and ensuring maximum return on investment. Greenwatt Rural Energy will provide independent advice and guidance with the business plan and the implementation of the appropriate renewable option. Farmers wanting to join a local group to take their ideas and initiatives forward are welcome to contact info@greenwatt.co.uk
