An advisor to the UK's big six energy firms has warned that household electricity and gas bills could rise by 40% by the end of the year. The assertion comes following Scottish Power's announcement to raise gas and electricty bills by 19% and 10% respectively. John Hall has warned that "unless there is a dramatic fall in oil prices, that is the scale of increase we are talking about to ensure that energy companies keep their margins."
