Project Profile

Electric public transport bus trial

Responsible for organising the funding and the coordination of a pilot electric bus trial operating a commercial Park and Ride route through the historic town of Stratford upon Avon. The trial compared the technical performance and passenger experience of the electric bus with a conventional diesel vehicle.

Product diversification in the treatment of waste wood for the bio-energy sector. Prepared funding application for a leading UK machinery manufacturer intending to develop a new prototype waste wood shredding machine aimed at servicing the biomass power station market.

Biomethane for Transport

Co-organiser of a series of workshops designed to raise awareness and develop projects which promote the use of bio-methane as a source of transport fuel (compressed gas) for public transport and fleet transport. Participants and contributors included experts in anaerobic digestion, bio-methane transportation and landfill methane collection.

Synthetic Fuel

EU-wide scoping study mapping the supply of organic waste from urban sources, the technical process of treatment and conversion into synthetic fuels (gas and liquid) and the current and potential market for synfuels. Identification of the barriers (legal, technical and financial) to the development of the technologies. Preparation of guidelines to develop synthetic fuel from organic urban waste.

Low Carbon Demonstration Centre

Developing a proposal to establish a National Low Carbon Demonstration Centre in the Midlands aimed at creating a centre of excellence for environmental and renewable technologies, sustainable buildings and low carbon transport. Centre will bring together supply chain companies, local authorities, R&D organisations and the general public to raise awareness, demonstrate technologies and put low carbon solutions into practice.

Developed a strategy for the dissemination of research for the Sustainable Urban Environment team at Birmingham University. Understanding the processes by which sustainable regeneration is achieved and the methods used to disseminate the lessons learnt ensures that sustainable urban development is included in future project planning processes.

UK co-partners for the EU-wide Green Ventures Programme, designed to bring together SMEs across Europe looking for business or project partners within the environmental and renewable energy technology sectors. Events coordinated include Green Ventures Berlin (June 2008, June 2009 and June 2010) and Green Ventures Rimini (November 2008).

Industrial Waste Strategy

Bayton Road Industrial Estate Focus (BRIEF) - Carried out an end-of-project evaluation of this initiative funded through ERDF and AWM to improve the business environment of this large industrial estate in Bedworth with emphasis upon development of environmental resource and waste management practices on the estate.
